Our DEKRA Experts is one of the leading and most innovative Marine loss adjusting and surveying companies in the Netherlands. This is due to their Business Unit Marine which consists of national and international operating specialists in the field of marine and transit losses (in the broadest sense of the word). Our adjusters work from their residences and are located all over the country.

Core values
Proactivity, expertise, specialism, all-rounders, multi-disciplinary, leaders in the survey market, innovation.

Due to our participation in the TMN Survey Group, the Business Unit Marine can provide a professional network of Marine loss adjusting and surveying companies, covering the whole of Europe and most other parts of the world. All member companies are carefully selected and are, in terms of quality and size, amongst the leading loss adjusting and surveying companies in their country. DEKRA Experts is a “founding member” of the London registered TMN Survey Group. Our member on the executive committee is Huib Ort.

Our Cargo and Hull & Machinery adjusters are based in the DEKRA Catastrophe team, who can be deployed worldwide for damage assessments whenever major natural catastrophes occur, such as after the hurricane on Sint Maarten in 2017.

Examples of Marine cases

Without going into detail, we set out below, a range of claims we have handled in the past:

  • Acting on behalf of the Logistic Liability insurer of a warehouse, concerning the occurrence of several extensive fires.

  • Acting on behalf of a Salvage company, involved in several salvage operations where General Average was declared to determine the value of the salvaged cargo.

  • Acting on behalf of a Corporate Liability and Carriers’ Liability insurer concerning contamination of a transported product. We determined the extent of the loss of the transported cargo as well as the loss of goods in the silo; the quantification of business interruption and loss with respect to product liability. Moreover, we coordinated the recall of the products.

  • Acting on behalf of a Cargo insurer, during national transport by road, a collision occurred which damaged a truck-tractor/trailer and the transported cargo. We conducted a damage assessment and recovered the loss from the liable party.

  • Acting on behalf of a Carriers’ Liability insurer, following damage occurring during the transport of a windmill, we assessed the loss and the nature of the damage.

In general, the core damage handled by the Business Unit Marine can be summarized as follows:

Carriers - physical distributors and logistic liability, goods in transit, coordination and handling of international claims, theft and fraud, consequential loss based on legal and/or contractual liability, ferry transport, transport/assembly, land-based equipment, (international) removals, pleasure crafts/ yachts and commodities.
